Atlas de fractographie des composites ArchiMer
Jeannetaud, P; Krawczak, P; Bequignat, R; Pabiot, J; Bord, C; Vancon, M; Bard, M; Lemascon, A.
Fractography deals with the microscopic study of the fracture surfaces of a structure in order to define the initiation and the propagation of the damage and then the failure history of the structure (stress, environment ...). Today, we are able to identify the causes of the failure of metallic parts based on pictures of typical fracture surfaces, but there is nothing similar for composite materials. However, the increasing amount of literature devoted to fractography, as well as the constitution of "brain storming" groups on a European level confirm scientific interest in this fracture analysis mode that permits a better understanding of the existing relationship between the material's microscopic structure and its macroscopic mechanical behaviour. In...

Case report: spontaneous rupture of the spleen due to dengue fever BJID
Miranda,L.E.C.; Miranda,S.J.C.; Rolland,M..
Spontaneous rupture of the spleen has been described in cases of hematologic, neoplasic and infectious diseases, or resulting from pancreatitis. We report a rare case of spontaneous splenic rupture, and favorable evolution after splenectomy, in a patient with dengue fever, which occurred during the last outbreak of dengue fever in Brazil.

Comportement mécanique de fibres et d'assemblages de fibres en polyester pour câbles d'amarrage de plates-formes offshore ArchiMer
Lechat, Céline.
Faced with the need to exploit off-shore oil fields at ever increasing depths, lighter replacements are being considered for the standard steel cable mooring systems used for platforms. This study considers the mechanical behaviour of synthetic ropes made of two different materials: PET and PEN. The first is already used in ropes to replace steel, and the second could be a potential competitor. A multi-scale study, involving mechanical tests (mainly tensile, creep and cyclic loading) has been carried out on assemblies of various sizes, from ropes of several hundreds kN breaking load to their smallest components: filaments. Strong correlations were found between the quasi-static behaviour of assemblies and the behaviour of filaments, which in itself is...

La conception structurale preliminaire de navires en ames sandwich ArchiMer
Previte, C.
Fiberglass laminate design is of deep concern to marine designers and engineers. This presentation summarizes the topic of core selection for marine structures. It provides a schematic approach to de-complicating laminate design, reviews the attributes of different types of Polimex cores and outlines the principal causes of sandwich failure. For sake of brevity engineering analysis and formulas have been greatly abbreviated.

Modelling Rupture Force based on Physical Properties – a Case Study for Roma Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Fruits CIGR Journal
Lak, Mohammadbagher; Minaei, Saeid; Soufizadeh, Saeid; Banakar, Ahmad.
Biophysical properties of agricultural materials are important in designing of processing machines. In this study, some physical properties of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) fruits were determined and their mutual relationships were studied. Dimensions (major diameter, minor diameter, and length), mass, volume, fresh and dry matter weight, as well as rupture point under uniaxial loading were measured. Other properties; including Poisson's ratio, modulus of elasticity, energy for rupture, density, arithmetic mean diameter, geometric mean diameter, diameter of equivalent volume sphere, and sphericity were calculated accordingly. Statistical analysis of the data indicated significant correlations between the rupture force and fresh weight, volume, dry weight,...

Morphological Distinguish of Rupture Status between Sidewall and Bifurcation Cerebral Aneurysms International Journal of Morphology
Qiu,Tianlun; Xing,Haiyan.
We suspect that morphological change of two types of aneurysms in ruptured and unruptured aneurysms are distinguishing because of different location and haemodynamics. So it is necessary to discuss sidewall and bifurcation type aneurysms in ruptured and unruptured state respectively. We used 209 consecutive aneurysms (144 ruptured, 65 bifurcation type) to assess the following parameters in 3D: maximum diameter (Dmax), maximum height (Hmax), aspect ratio (AR), size ratio (SR), height/width ratio (HW), bottleneck factor (BNF, width/neck) and inflow angle (IR). These aneurysms were divided into four groups by whether ruptured and sidewall or bifurcation. 4 groups were pairwise compared by univariate analysis and some parameters with significant variation were...

Treatment alternatives for cranial cruciate ligament rupture in dogs MV&Z
Tatarunas, Angelica Cecilia; Matera, Julia Maria.
Objective: To review and analyze the treatment alternatives for cruciate ligament rupture in dogs. Data Sources: CAB and MEDLINE databases, retrospective period of./O years. Data Synthesis: Conservative and surgical treatments are both mentioned. The surgical techniques described are classified as intracapsular and extracapslllar procedures. While in the first ones the ruptured figment is replaced With autogenously grafts OI' synthetic material, the latter ones involve stretching of the periarticular tissues to restore joint stability.lnmany cases, the medial meniscus is damaged as a result of the craniocaudal tibial drawer motion. None of the surgical techniques described consistently stops the progression of degenerative joint disease. Conclusions:...
